First look at Moana was officially unveiled on November 17, 2025, months before its official release on July 10, 2026.

Although the animated film has been one of the beloved Disney movies, it appears the new remake did not sit well with fans as they expressed their frustration on social media.

Fans on X were left confused as they insisted the upcoming film does not look like a live remake as one user in particular pointed out that the distinction between “animation and live-action” was missing.

Another die-hard admirer was of the opinion: “This really doesn’t look that different from the original and I’m assuming it’ll be the same story??”

Meanwhile, a third fan pointed out that the “animated water” is bothering them. However, many fans are eagerly waiting for the final release of the motion picture.

Several adults admitted they will be visiting the “theater filled with kids” next year.

The adventure remake will feature Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Maui while Auliʻi Cravalho takes up the titular lead role.

Who is producing and directing Moana live-action?

The third instalment of Moana franchise is directed by Thomas Kail and produced by Dwayne himself. It comes after nearly two years of announcement in April 2023.

While the trailer was bashed for appearing cartooned, few behind the scenes of the film seems promising with "The Rock" dressed up as Maui.
