Mike Smith, who plays a character that faces legal troubles in the Canadian sitcom Trailer Park Boys, has been hit with a lawsuit.
The comedian has ben accused of sexual assault and in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for an alleged incident that took place in 2017.
In a statement, the company that manages the show’s proceedings Trailer Park Boys Inc. has issued a statement announcing the father-of-two’s departure.
"We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously. We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved,” they stated.
"Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case. At this time, Mike has stepped away from his role at Trailer Park Boys Incorporated and Gary Howsam has assumed managing director responsibilities,” they added.
The company also revealed that this does not mean that the show will stop production and emphasised that Trailer Park Boys will see its 13th season in 2026 as scheduled.
Mike had also faced another run in with the law in 2016, after being arrested in Los Angeles for domestic battery and misdemeanor.
John Dunsworthm, who played Mr. Lahey on the show saddened fans after his passing in 2017.
