'Top Gear' host Quentin Willson passes away after losing health battle

Quentin Willson, who remained associated with Top Gear from 1991 to 2001, passed away at the age of 68.

The news of his sad passing was confirmed by his family, announcing he died “peacefully” on Saturday, November 8, 2025 “surrounded by his family.”

It was revealed in the statement that the host, who shared the screen with Jeremy Clarkson, lost a brief battle with lung cancer.

The English producer’s family admitted that he was a “true national treasure,” bringing “the joy of motoring, from combustion to electric, into our living rooms.”

After being part of BBC’s programme, Quentin became the face of Channel 5’s Fifth Gear and later laid the foundation of others, including Britain’s Worst Drivers and The Car’s the Star.

What were Quentin Willson's initiative?

On the other hand, he was a “passionate consumer advocate” and started FairFuel initiative. Moreover, Quentin worked under his FairCharge campaign to make EV (electric vehicles) more reachable for consumers.

Tributes began pouring in with his colleagues Jeremy Clarkson and James May penning down on his death.

James noted that the departed soul was a “great bloke” revealing that he “gave me a proper advice and encouragement during my earliest attempts at TV.”

Meanwhile, Jeremy described him as a “properly funny man,” recalling having “some laughs over the years.”
