The infamous Mummy series has been announced to return with a new instalment after its last came out in 2008.

Radio Silence, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet, are set to take up the directorial role of the fourth movie after working for revived Scream and Ready or Not.

However, fans gave a mixed reaction to the announcement with many hoping high after seemingly being disappointed by Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

One of the X users commented on the update: “I hope they go back to Egypt. Start with an origin story with the two books and make Akhenaten the villain.”

Another recommended that they should “bring back Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, & John Hannah as well” while a third wants Joe Keery from Stranger Things “as a young Rick O’Connell.”

However, the Universal studios have maintained their silence, keeping other information under tight wraps.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have reportedly joined hands to lead the project after the 1999 reboot was a box office hit.

What is The Mummy about?

The Mummy's plot is based on a treasure hunter who ends up discovering an ancient tomb, accidentally reincarnating a cursed Egyptian priest.

While the beloved series has received rave review for its storyline, viewers are both thrilled and confused if it’s going to fix the mistakes of the 2008 film.
