I Love LA, the new HBO series written, directed and starring Rachel Sennott has finally premiered.
Coming in the tradition of women centered and created projects like Girls and Fleabag, the series faced high expectations even before its debut.
People who enjoyed the aforementioned shows seem to prefer I Love LA, although not as much as the earlier ones.
“Reminds me of Girls (2012), but the LA version. The first episode hit me like a breath of fresh air. Kinda raunchy, great dialog and a quirky set of friends make the premise not only palpable but believable. If you're a fan of Girls (2012) or Florida Girls (2019), this show fills that role,” wrote one user on IMDb.
Featuring heartthrobs such as Josh Hutcherson also seems to be helping audiences along, “Love the visuals la vibe so much. Rachel Sennott is amazing, love Josh hutcherson. The music is great everything about screams Los Angeles, hbo shows are usually top notch and it doesn't disappoint at all, looking forward to the next episode and the rest of the season one of the best shows so far of the year.”
However, some people have found this whole style of series to be boring and outdated, "So sick of this same boring transplant narrative. So Original .... New story so girl moves to LA to make it, and she goes through all these wacky zany adventures, does all these crazy things not like her home but somehow has a heart of gold, amazing story telling way to read a room guys: exactly what the people want, never heard this story before, cray cray.”
