Tokyo-based Toho Studios has finally shared the title to the highly anticipated follow up to the smash hit Godzilla Minus One.
Called Godzilla Minus Zero, it will be helmed by Oscar-winning director and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki once again.
The name was revealed during the Godzilla Day 2025 event that took place in Tokyo where a logo and teaser artwork were also unveiled.
Despite only being made with a budget of $15 million, Godzilla Minus One broke several records, going on to earn more than $113 million worldwide.
Furthermore, it became the only installment in the franchise to have won an Academy Award, beating out several films with much higher budgets for the best visual effects win.
In the North American box office, it became the all-time top-grossing live-action Japanese film.
Insiders are claiming that the movie is not just a follow up but a statement, with the studio hoping for a late 2026 release window.
“Japan has barely recovered from the Second World War when a gigantic peril emerges off the coast of Tokyo. Koichi, a deserter traumatised by his first confrontation with Godzilla, sees this as an opportunity to redeem his conduct during the war,” reads the synopsis of Godzilla Minus One.
