Ariana Grande’s absence from the Wicked: For Good premiere in Brazil has sparked widespread backlash, and the singer has issued statements explaining the situation in response.

The actress, who plays Glinda in the prequel Wicked, took to her Instagram to apologise to fans and to make them understand that she did everything in her power to be able to attend.

In the heartfelt note, the two-time Grammy winner began by directly addressing her Brazilian fans by writing that she can’t believe this is happening and that she is upset by the turn of events.

“A few hours ago, my team and [I] had to deplane our flight, as they had to do maintenance on the plane due to a safety issue,” Ariana said in one of her notes.

The 7 Rings singer then explained that her and her team attempted to find alternatives, but none of them could have helped her reach the event in time, which was attended by her co-stars Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey and others.

In another statement Ariana wrote, “please don't wish danger on us. no matter how upset or disappointed you are, please please do not wish danger on us or assume that we didn't try..” referring to some fans allegedly sending her hate and death threats.

Notably, the event in Sao Paulo was the first of the international rollout for Wicked: For Good, with the next location being the Paris premiere.
