Prince Andrew has officially been stripped of his remaining royal titles and honours but there’s still one role he technically holds within the monarchy.
Buckingham Palace confirmed on Thursday that King Charles has taken steps to remove his younger brother’s last formal styles and titles, including Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, and Baron Killyleagh.
Andrew, 65, will now be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and the style His Royal Highness will be permanently withdrawn.
He also loses his honours as a Knight of the Order of the Garter and Knight Grand Cross of the Victorian Order.
However, the disgraced royal still technically remains a Counsellor of State, one of a select few who can deputise for the monarch if needed.
This role, held by the sovereign’s spouse and the first four royals over 21 in the line of succession, remains unchanged by law.
Currently, the Counsellors of State are Queen Camilla, Prince William, Prince Harry, Andrew, and Princess Beatrice, though the Palace confirmed Andrew “will never be called upon” to serve in that capacity.
