A tragic incident has shaken Disneyland after a woman died shortly after riding the iconic Haunted Mansion attraction at the Anaheim theme park.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the incident occurred on Monday, October 6, when Anaheim Fire & Rescue responded to reports of an unresponsive woman in her 60s who had just finished the ride.
Matt Sutter of the Anaheim Police Department confirmed via email that “Disneyland security personnel provided CPR until paramedics arrived.” Despite efforts to revive her, the woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
While the official cause of death has not yet been determined, authorities confirmed that the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner will release more details once the investigation concludes.
A Disneyland representative also told PEOPLE that a guest required medical attention inside the park and was taken to the hospital, but did not share additional information regarding the incident.
The Anaheim Police Department has not yet issued a public statement or responded to further media requests for comment.
The Haunted Mansion, one of Disneyland’s most beloved and long-running attractions, originally opened in 1969 in the park’s New Orleans Square area — making this an especially somber moment for fans of the classic ride.
Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion is dark, gloomy, and has some frightening scenes. Though there’s no mayhem or bloodshed, the ghostly characters are friendly and the ride is slow-moving.
