Hailee Steinfeld suffers fans shouting explicit ‘Sinners’ line in public

Hailee Steinfeld sat down for an interview where she opened up about her part in the hugely successful Sinners, and certain drawbacks.

"There have been a couple moments ... people like to bring up certain lines in the movie, especially that one. That's always ... yeah, awkward,” she explained to Variety about fan interactions after the release.

The actress clarified that while she respects her fans, it puts her in a bizarre position considering the very explicit nature of the line, "I respect and appreciate [fans], but I know what the line is. You don't have to tell me. Especially when someone nearby isn't in the know, it can get weird fast."

Steinfeld had had concerns about the line even before shooting, however, not because she was disturbed by it, "When I read a script, there's always a scene or two that you dog-ear or red-circle.”

She had hoped that she would have time to build a rapport with co-star, Michael B. Jordan before having to do the scene, however, they ended up doing it as their first scene together.

Fortunately, it ended up working out regardless, "We were filming in New Orleans during hurricane season, so everything got moved around." That move meant that the scene in question — which was initially planned to shoot later on — got pushed up. "It was the first thing Michael [B. Jordan] and I shot together. By then, our characters had lived some of the memories we refer to in the film. It was almost like we did it in reverse, but in a great way."
