Sean Diddy Combs has been sentenced to four years and two months in prison, with the judge also imposing a fine and conditions for his release.
On Friday, October 3, Combs was sentenced after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
After hearing from Combs' defense attorneys and from Combs himself—who addressed the judge and extended his apologies to Casandra Elizabeth Ventura, known as Cassie—the judge pronounced the sentence.
As reported by the Associated Press, Combs received four years and two months in prison in a case involving sex workers, violence, and “freak-offs.”
“This is hard time in prison, away from your family, friends and community, but you will have a life afterward,” sentencing judge Arun Subramanian told Combs.
Since Combs has already spent several years behind bars, he is expected to be released in about three years.
The judge said Combs’ rehabilitation claims could not outweigh the evidence, rejecting both the prosecution’s harsh proposal and the defense’s lenient one.
Subramanian praised the “brave” survivors for sharing their “horrific stories, but stories of courage.”
“We heard you,” he said, singling out Cassie, “Jane,” and other women who testified. “I am proud of you for coming to court to tell the world what really happened.”
The Judge adjourned the court after a final admonition.
“We all have voices, but you have a megaphone,” the judge told Combs, urging him to show the world what “real accountability” and change can be.
“I’m counting on you to make the most of your second chance,” the judge added.
In response, Combs stood, adjusted his sweater, briefly turned to the gallery, and then sat back down at the defense table.
Judge Subramanian also imposed a $500,000 fine and ordered five years of supervised release after Combs leaves prison.
Combs has the option to appeal his convictions, and his lawyers confirmed they will. They have 14 days to file notice.
Combs sat emotionless as his sentence was read, staring straight ahead. Earlier, he had encouraged his family with smiles, gestures, and blown kisses, but the long day left him drained.
After learning he would spend more than four years in prison, he turned to his mother and children, sighed, and quietly told them: “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
