Pop princess Britney Spears is facing fresh legal trouble after being charged with a DUI after her dramatic arrest earlier this year.
The 44-year-old chart-topper was pulled over on March 4 after authorities received reports of a car “driving erratically at a high rate of speed”.
Officers linked to the California Highway Patrol responded to the incident, which has now escalated into formal charges.
The Toxic hitmaker is set to be arraigned on Monday at the Ventura County Superior Court, although officials say she may not need to attend in person.
According to a statement shared with Us Weekly, her lawyer could appear on her behalf as the charge is classified as a misdemeanour.
Prosecutors have made it clear the songstress won’t receive any special treatment despite her global fame.
The case will follow standard procedure, with officials hinting she could be offered a so-called “wet reckless” plea, a common outcome in first-time, low-level DUI cases without injuries or crashes.
If accepted, the deal would see Britney placed on probation for a year, ordered to complete a DUI education programme, and pay fines.
It may also involve rehabilitation efforts, something authorities say is often encouraged when defendants show willingness to address underlying issues.
A spokesperson for the Gimme More singer previously called the incident “completely inexcusable”, adding that she is prepared to “take the right steps” and comply with the law.
Behind the scenes, sources say her inner circle is now rallying around her, hoping this moment becomes a turning point.
