Prince Harry needed back as working royal to save the Firm, expert says

Prince Harry famously stepped down from royal duties in 2020, choosing a new life in California with Meghan Markle.

But despite his self-imposed exile, Harry has continued to carry out charity work and engagements that often resemble royal tours, including recent trips to Nigeria and Colombia.

Now, journalist Celia Walden has argued that the Royal Family should welcome Harry back under a “half-in, half-out” model.

Writing in the Telegraph, Walden asked: “Why can’t Harry be allowed to be a half-in, half-out royal? That’s essentially what he is now.”

She pointed to his work with the HALO Trust, Sentebale, Invictus Games, and Archewell Foundation, adding that, like his late mother Princess Diana, Harry shines in personal interactions: “He tends to be warm and natural in even the most stilted situations.”

While critics have long slammed the idea of part-time royals, Walden suggested this hybrid role could secure the Firm’s future.

“It could be a win-win,” she wrote. “Half-in, half-out Harry, it’s off to work you go.”
