James Gunn’s Superman, played by David Corenswet, is suiting up once again, with the sequel to DC Universe’s blockbuster summer hit set to return to theatres in less than two years.

On Wednesday, Sept. 3, Gunn, who also serves as DC Studios’ co-head, announced the official title and release date of the follow-up via Instagram.

Alongside the reveal, he shared a comic book panel of Superman facing off against Lex Luthor in his iconic Warsuit, a clear signal that the sequel will explore Luthor’s escalating feud with the Man of Steel.

“Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027,” Gunn wrote in the caption.

In DC lore, Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult in the films) constructs the high-tech armour to match Superman’s strength. After his failed scheme with a Superman clone in Gunn’s first instalment, the villain now appears ready to step into the fight himself.

Man of Tomorrow will land after DC’s crowded 2026 slate, which features Supergirl, a cosmic adventure directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Ana Mogueira, and starring Milly Alcock, and Clayface, a horror-inspired reimagining directed by James Watkins with a script by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, starring Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie.

With DC accelerating its release calendar, the Superman sequel is even set to hit theatres before Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated The Batman Part II, currently scheduled for October 1, 2027.
