Prince Harry reveals heartbreaking regret over final call with Princess Diana

Prince Harry has shared one of the most painful regrets of his life, the final phone call with his mother, Princess Diana, before her tragic death. 

Speaking in the 2017 documentary Diana, Our Mother, the Duke of Sussex revealed that as a 12-year-old, he rushed off the call so he could return to playing outside, not knowing it would be the last time he would ever speak to her.

“I can’t really remember what I said,” Harry confessed. 

“But I’ll regret forever how short the phone call was. If I had known it was the last time, the things I would have said to her.”

Prince William also opened up in the documentary, describing the devastating moment as leaving him “numb, disorientated, dizzy” and constantly asking, “Why me?”

Harry further reflected on the trauma of walking behind Diana’s coffin at her funeral, calling it something “no child should ever be asked to do.” 

He later revisited the Paris tunnel where the crash occurred, writing in his memoir Spare that he hoped it would bring closure, but instead triggered “Pain, Part Deux.”

More than 25 years later, both princes continue to keep Diana’s memory alive through their work and tributes.
