Kate Winslet, who is best known for her role in Titanic, is putting acting to the side as she takes up a new role for her latest project.

The Divergent actress has decided to embark on the upcoming movie Goodbye June, which has its screenplay written by her 21-year-old son Joe Anders, as a director.

This is uncharted territory for the renowned actress, but in an interview with Deadline, she stated that once her son started talking about potential directors, she "suddenly felt like I’d been stabbed in the gut."

In the same issue she explained that she felt this way because once the project is taken on by a filmmaker, it becomes theirs and she wanted the project to be just hers and her son’s.

Winslet added that she had learned a lot from her time on set, as well as how to work with actors, and directors like Francis Lee and Todd Haynes also teaching her things.

The 49-year-old continued, “And I think it just feels great to have directed my first film in the 50th year of my life as a woman. It feels good, it feels good.”

Notably, the Christmas themed film is set to be released in select theatres on December 12, a short while before hitting streaming platforms.

Who is starring in ‘Goodbye June’?

The titular character, June is played by Helen Mirren along with Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn and Andrea Riseborough.
