Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, has spoken out for the first time since his dramatic arrest in Los Angeles last week.
The 26-year-old singer was taken into custody in the early hours of Thursday, August 21, after police found him wandering the streets in just his underwear shortly before 6am.
According to the authorities, the Rodeo hitmaker allegedly charged at officers when confronted, leading to his arrest.
He has since been charged with three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer.
The Grammy winner appeared in court on Monday, August 25, where he pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Lil Nas X took to Instagram to speak directly to fans and reassure them, saying, “Your girl’s gonna be OK. That was f****** terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days but your girl’s gonna be alright.”
His lawyer, Christy O’Connor, described the incident as “an absolute aberration”, while his father, Robert Stafford, revealed his son is “very remorseful” and promised he will get the help he needs.
“We shed tears, we shed laughter, but he’s in great spirits,” Robert said.
The rapper, who shot to global fame in 2019 when Old Town Road dominated the charts for 19 weeks, has vowed this year to focus on living authentically.
Lil Nas X’s most well-known ex is dancer Yai Ariza, whom he dated in 2021 and remains on good terms with.
He has also mentioned having other past relationships, but those remain private.
