Keira Knightley solves murder mystery by sea in new Netflix trailer

British screen icon Keira Knightley appears to solve a seaside murder mystery in Netflix’s newly released trailer for The Woman in Cabin 10, based on Ruth Ware’s bestselling novel.

On Tuesday, Aug. 26, Netflix debuted the trailer, showing the Oscar-nominated actress as Laura “Lo” Blacklock, a journalist who witnesses a possible murder while aboard a luxury cruise.

Directed by Simon Stone, the film features a star-studded cast including Guy Pearce, David Ajala, Hannah Waddingham, Art Malik, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kaya Scodelario, David Morrissey, and Daniel Ings.

“While on board a luxury yacht for a travel assignment, a journalist witnesses a passenger thrown overboard late at night, only to be told it didn’t happen, as all passengers and crew are accounted for,” the synopsis reads. “Despite no one believing her, she continues to search for answers, putting her own life in danger.”

Speaking about Knightley, director Simon Stone told PEOPLE the actress has “done an extraordinary job of having this incredibly charismatic core that you totally believe, because it’s a gaslighting story.”

“Historically, there’s been this tendency to treat female psychology as something that’s not to be trusted,” he continued. “And I went, no—I want the performance to be so convincing that you just go, ‘I believe you. I’m on your side, and I want, with you, to find out what happened.’ And [Keira]’s so good at that.”

The Woman in Cabin 10 premieres on Netflix Oct. 10.
