Adam Sandler sold the rights to the fan-favorite franchise, Twilight, after not being able to understand it.
According to Jackson Rathbone, the actor who played Jasper Hale in the films, the 54-year-old’s production company, Happy Madison, bought Twilight.
Though it only stayed with Sandler for a brief period before he passed it on to Summit Entertainment.
Rathbone recalled, “I heard the story and this is true — Adam Sandler’s company, Happy Madison, actually bought the rights to it and owned it for like a hot minute until they realized they couldn’t figure it out either."
He noted that if the Grown Ups lead had produced the films, it would’ve looked very different, “Was Adam Sandler gonna play Edward?" The Big Stan star joked.
Notably, Rathbone was a guest in 'Meet The Cullens' panel at Fan Expo Canada, where he pointed out, “This IP… the book was passed around. Paramount passed on it. Big studios passed on it.”
For the unversed, the Twilight franchise is a vampire romance story that follows the love story between a human, Bella Swan, portrayed by Kristen Stewart, and a vampire, Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson.
The five movies collectively grossed over $3.3 billion worldwide. The rights were acquired a year and half after the book’s publication in 2005.
No, the Twilight Saga series does not have a confirmed sequel. However, Jackson Rathbone has expressed interest in reprising his role as Jasper Hale in a new installment that will explore his character’s past.
