Sarah Jessica Parker’s iconic character Carrie Bradshaw is always remembered for her extravagant fashion items, but one arguably enticing hat went viral after And Just Like That… season 3.

In the show’s premiere, the Emmy-winning actress was strolling in a NYC park with a friend, sporting a voluminous, bonnet-style hat.

The hat went viral, making fans compare Parker to Strawberry Shortcake. Meanwhile, series creator Michael Patrick King joked that the hat was like “the Hindenburg balloon that landed on [Carrie’s] head."

However, Parker finally opened up about how she fought to wear it onscreen while speaking during a Q&A with Evan Ross Katz, hosted by Threads at il Buco al Mare in Amagansett, N.Y., on Aug. 11.

The Sex and the City icon remembered the day on set when she walked into the fitting room with the wardrobe team, and that’s when she spotted the hat.

Parker recalled the hat lying between the racks and racks and racks of clothes, “miles of shoes,” and tables brimming with jewellery and accessories.

“I personally love hats on Carrie. I love it,” the actress said. “So the minute I saw that hat, I’m sure I said something similar to, ‘How do I get that on my head? How do we convince Michael Patrick [King] it’s necessary? And what scene can it go in that we can make a case in front of the court, and we can say, ‘No, Michael Patrick, this is not going to be distracting, this is going to be great?’ ”

Parker kept gushing about the hat, describing it as “massive and shapeless,” while pointing out that milliners rarely use linen since it’s “an enemy of shape and form”, which explained its floppy look.

“I loved it. I loved it,” she restated. “So I was just like, ‘We’ve got to find a place for this.’ ”
