King Charles pays heartfelt tribute to war heroes in key VJ Day speech

King Charles delivered a powerful speech to remember the war heroes and paid tribute to veterans on the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.

On August 15, Buckingham Palace shared an audio message from the monarch on their official Instagram channels as the royals commemorated the historic occasion.

The King began his address by mentioning his late grandfather, King George VI, who announced that the war was over following the tragic attacks on Japan's Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Prince William's father said, "On this day of profound remembrance, I speak to you in that same spirit of commemoration and celebration as we honour anew all those whose service and sacrifice saw the forces of liberty prevail."

Notably, King Charles paid heartfelt tribute to the Allied pilots' "fearless bravery" and recalled the hard times faced by the prisoners of war and civilian populations of occupied areas.

"Their experience reminds us that war's true cost extends beyond battlefields, touching every aspect of life - a tragedy all too vividly demonstrated by conflicts around the world today," he said.

King Charles mourned the precious lives lost of Japanese citizens, calling it an "immense price" paid by their nation.

"But in recalling so much suffering, we must not lose sight of how great was the cause and how sweet the victory," the monarch stated.

King Charles concluded his speech, honouring the courage and camaraderie displayed by "the families of all those who served, and to that sadly dwindling band of veterans among us" during challenging times.
