Residents near Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Montecito mansion have been urged to take precautions as wildfire smoke from California’s Gifford Fire pushes air-quality levels into the danger zone.

The fast-moving blaze, which ignited on August 1, has scorched 122,065 acres, making it the state’s largest wildfire of 2025 so far, prompting an air-quality advisory for parts of the Bay Area and reports of ash and haze along the Central Coast.

Air officials warn wildfire smoke contains fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and other pollutants that can trigger coughing, wheezing, headaches and nausea, even after short exposures.

Children, seniors and people with respiratory or cardiac conditions are especially at risk.

“The best protection is to stay indoors with windows and doors shut and use an air purifier,” said Lyz Bantilan, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District, noting a spike in local reports of smoke and ash.

Those who must be outdoors are advised to wear a properly fitted N95. Residents should also monitor real-time readings via the EPA Fire and Smoke Map.

Their 5-acre estate features nine bedrooms, extensive gardens, a pool, tennis court, and “Archie’s Chick Inn.”

Earlier this year, Harry and Meghan met with Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo and first responders amid the Eaton Fire, highlighting their ongoing interest in local emergency efforts.
