KJ Apa (Keneti James Fitzgerald) is all set to return to the big screen after he signed on to play the legendary actor James Stewart in the biopic, Jimmy.
On August 5, the 28-year-old actor revealed to Variety, “I have always been a huge James Stewart fan and feel so honoured I get to bring his story to life.”
He added, “It is important to me to give back to a country that has given me so much.” KJ praised the Vertigo actor, saying that he served his country with “great honour.”
The film, Jimmy, will follow his rise in Hollywood, the services he did in World War II, and his return to star in It’s a Wonderful Life.
Directed by Aaron Burns, the star-studded cast includes KJ Apa, Jason Alexander, Max Casella, and Sarah Drew.
Notably, James Stewart was an American-born Hollywood star who made headlines during the early 1900s with his performances in It’s a Wonderful Life, The Philadelphia Story, and Vertigo, which was directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
James's daughter, Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, serves as an executive producer and admitted, “My family and I are delighted and excited that KJ Apa has agreed to play my father in this film.”
For the unversed, the biopic will start production from September in Ireland with a release date set for November 2026.
On the professional front, KJ will make his appearance alongside Madelyne Cline in The Map That Leads to You, which is slated for August 20.
