Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman and her husband, country music star Keith Urban, are reportedly setting down roots in Portugal, but the move is already stirring local resentment.
According to Portuguese media outlet SIC Notícias, Kidman, 58, has applied for residency in Portugal and was recently spotted stepping off a private jet in the country.
She is reportedly eyeing properties in Cascais and the ultra-exclusive CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club, an enclave less than 100 miles from Lisbon known for its high-end clientele and tight security.
The area has already drawn high-profile residents, including Princess Eugenie and, according to reports, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are rumoured to have bought a home there earlier this year.
However, CostaTerra’s transformation into a luxury escape for millionaires is not sitting well with locals.
In a string of critical Google reviews, residents voiced anger over the privatization of beaches and what they call the destruction of once-pristine coastal land.
“Worst decision ever to build this,” one reviewer wrote. “I used to visit the beach here, now they blocked the access.”
Another accused developers of “bulldozing everything that made this coast real,” branding the area a “private playground for millionaires.”
