Matty Healy showcased his support for indie music places ahead of the upcoming festival in the United Kingdom.

The 36-year-old musician expressed his concern over small seed venues shutting down due to economic challenges. These places act as a centre stage for up-and-coming artists to showcase their talent.

As per BBC, the singer said, “Local venues aren’t just where bands cut their teeth, they’re the foundation of any real culture.”

The 1975 band member lists examples of famous names who started small, “Without them, you don't get The Smiths, Amy Winehouse, or The 1975. You get silence.”

Healy will act as an ambassador for Seeds Sounds Weekender, a multi-venue festival that holds concerts across the nation. It supports small spaces, which gives emerging artists the opportunity to perform.

Notably, the 1975 rock band initially started out in seed venues supported by the Weekender festival and headlined the Glastonbury festival this year.

The frontman stressed the fact that great music does not start in big arenas, it starts in pubs, backrooms and clubs.

He added, “Independent spaces run on love, grit, and belief in something bigger.”

Healy is known for backing small spaces. In 2022, he offered to purchase the flat, which was in the middle of the Night & Day cafe venue.

A resident had filed a noise complaint report, which would've resulted in the closure of the place.

However, the About You singer withdrew his offer when he found out the council would eventually close the venue despite his purchase.

For the unversed, Seeds Sounds Weekender will take place from September 26 to 28.
