Matty Healy’s mother, Denise Welch, made headlines after she made an unexpected and eyebrow raising statement about the global popstar on live TV and now she is anticipating backlash from her son.
The English actress was asked by host Andy Cohen on the Watch What Happens Live with Andy what she thought of the 14-time Grammy winner’s latest album The Tortured Poets Department.
In response, the Loose Woman panelist stated that she was glad not to be the mother-in-law of the Fresh Out the Slammer singer, subsequently eliciting gasps from the audience.
However, it seems like she was aware of the impact the statement would have, since she admitted to The 1975 singer contacting her over the whole ordeal.
Towards the end of the episode, Andy asked Denise if she had any remorse over her comments to which Denise replied with, “It's hard to have mums on the telly and I've had my issues, well documented in the UK, issues over the years of self-medication and stuff.”
She further noted, “'So the fact my kids are so wonderful and grounded and still love us is really quite something, but yes I probably will hear from [Matty],” with a laugh.
For the unversed, although the If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know) singer and Taylor’s relationship was fleeting, it became a topic of online debate among the pair’s audiences.
The ex-couple’s fans attempted to piece together how long the two had feeling for each other and which songs they had written about each other.
The most unforgettable moment amount the two came when they mouthed the same words “This one is about you. You know who you are. I love you,” during the performances of their songs just days apart from each other in early May.
