Adam Sandler made a low key appearance at the premiere of his Netflix film, Happy Gilmore 2, alongside his wife Jackie Sandler.
The 58-year-old donned casual attire: a yellow Hawaiian shirt, peach shorts and blue-grey sneakers.
Happy Gilmore 2's premiere was an emotional tribute to the legendary actor Carl Weathers, who passed away seven months before filming began.
According to Adam, the sudden tragedy resulted in the script being rewritten since Carl had a “massive part” in the sequel.
The Grown Ups actor mentioned to Collider, “I would talk to Carl, and we were excited, and then Carl passed away.”
He added, “We had to rewrite a lot of the stuff, and even what the story was.”
For the unversed, Carl died in February 2024 from a cardiovascular disease.
Carl played a titular role in Happy Gilmore as Chubbs Peterson and was said to reprise his character.
The lead actor affirmed that the new script honours Carl’s legacy by acknowledging how “great Chubbs was in the movie.”
On February 2, 2024, Adam paid tribute to Carl on his passing on Instagram. He wrote, "Smart as hell. Loyal as hell. Funny as hell."
Notably, Happy Gilmore 2 brings back the main cast: Ben Stiller, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald. It also features new stars like Margaret Qualley, Eminem, Bad Bunny and Sunny Sandler (Adam Sandler’s daughter).
The sequel is set 29 years after the original film and will be released on July 25, 2025.
