Late-night TV star host Jimmy Kimmel and President Donald Trump are open about expressing their feelings with no filters, and politics is deeply embedded in the late-night TV industry.
The drama started on July 17, when long-running talk show icon Stephen Colbert shook the industry by announcing that CBS is cancelling The Late Show after running for three decades.
The cancellation news sparked curiosity over whether the decision was influenced by CBS parent company Paramount’s deal with Trump, as Colbert has been openly critical of the president.
After the news broke, Kimmel supported Colbert and cursed CBS for the decision.
Kimmel’s response was followed by the president, who wrote on July 18 in a Truth Social post, "I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!"
Moreover, Trump also indirectly attacked Jimmy Fallon without using his name, saying, "the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show."
Kimmel, who has been on summer vacation with his family, shared a social media post on July 17, featuring a picture taken during an anti-Trump protest with his family.
"May every day be another wonderful secret," Kimmel's Instagram caption read, referencing a line from a cryptic letter that Trump allegedly wrote to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The photo included Kimmel, his wife (Molly McNearney), and their kids, Jane and Billy, holding signs.
The parents wore anti-Trump shirts while the signs read "Don't bend the knee," "Make America Good Again," and "I wish we had a better president!"
