Prince Harry reportedly considered dropping his royal surname, Mountbatten-Windsor, in favour of his late mother Princess Diana’s maiden name, Spencer, a move one royal expert says sends a "terrible message" to the Royal Family.
According to The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, former royal correspondent Charles Rae claims the Duke of Sussex is showing signs of indecision and emotional conflict.
“It was only a month ago that he was pleading for reconciliation,” Rae said. “And now, he wants to change his name? It shows he doesn’t know what he wants, and it’s not a good look.”
The 40-year-old royal was reportedly talked out of the change by Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, who advised against the complicated legal and emotional implications.
The name-change revelation comes amid Prince Harry’s ongoing estrangement from the Firm, despite recent attempts to mend ties with King Charles and Prince William.
Harry, now based in California with Meghan Markle and their two children, continues to grapple with his royal identity, and this latest move could complicate any hopes for a royal reunion.
