Meghan Markle’s latest product promo is getting attention but not all of it’s sweet.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, recently reposted a fan’s Instagram Story on her As Ever brand account, showing off a plate of shortbread cookies made using Meghan’s new lifestyle line, but it was the caption that raised eyebrows.
“I made the @aseverofficial shortbread cookies. So good and great with a spot of tea,” the fan wrote.
The cookies were pictured alongside a Princess Diana tea tin from New English Teas, retailing for £6.99, and while Meghan herself didn’t write the caption, her repost quickly sparked backlash.
Critics jumped on the “spot of tea” phrasing, with some Brits calling it a “cringe attempt” at being British again.
One commenter joked: “She’s watched too much Mary bloody Poppins,” while another called the Diana tea tin “tacky.”
The backlash follows Meghan’s growing efforts to promote As Ever, the lifestyle brand she launched on April 2, the same day her Netflix series With Love, Meghan dropped.
The Duchess has been sharing fan-created recipes and product photos, including another post where someone raved: “This tea is divine! Please make & release more soon @aseverofficial.”
As Ever's debut collection includes everything from raspberry jam and wildflower honey to crepe mix and flower sprinkles, all wrapped in Meghan’s signature Montecito-chic aesthetic.
Here’s a peek at the price tags: Raspberry spread (with keepsake packaging): $14; Wildflower honey with honeycomb: $28; Flower sprinkles: $15.
The brand’s focus is “elevated, everyday living”, think hostessing, cooking, and cozy-chic vibes for the curated kitchen shelf.
