Meghan Markle has joined a growing coalition of global figures calling for a “prohibition” on the unsafe development of artificial intelligence.
The Duchess of Sussex added her name to a joint statement urging a halt on creating “superintelligent” AI systems more powerful than human minds.
According to the Financial Times, the open letter was organized by the Future of Life Institute (FLI) and signed by hundreds of prominent voices, including Stephen Fry, Steve Bannon, scientists, politicians, and religious leaders.
The alliance warns that the race to create ultra-intelligent AI could pose a catastrophic threat to humanity if left unchecked.
FLI president Max Tegmark explained: “It is our humanity that brings us together. More people are starting to realize that the biggest threat isn’t another country — it’s the machines we are building.”
Prince Harry also signed the statement, adding a personal note: “The future of AI should serve humanity, not replace it. The true test of progress will not be how fast we move, but how wisely we steer.”
