Heath Ledger's ex reminisces over his ‘sensitivity’

Michelle Williams sat down for an interview on the podcast, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard where she discussed her former partner and late actor, Heath Ledger.

The two shared a daughter named Matilda Ledger who is now 19, having split up only months before his untimely death.

“I feel obligated to say that I knew him a little bit when he was getting sober, and I don’t know that I’ve ever fallen in love with somebody so quickly,” she explained. “This is one of the most special boys I’ve ever met, and I can feel the weight of the world on him in a very special way that kind of broke my heart. I was very, very sad, and I thought he was just so special.”

Growing emotional, she added, “So special, so special, thank god there’s Matilda.”

The host commented that Ledger had “this heart here that’s just leaking out everywhere,” to which Williams responded, “Yeah, an incredible sensitivity.”

The pair saw the birth of their daughter in October 2005 while they were promoting the Oscar winning flick, Brokeback Mountain.

Having met on the set of the film, the actress said of that time, “We had a baby. But I suppose maybe it's a good thing about being young is that you don't have so much life experience that you can contextualize things. So you're really just going with the flow.”
