DC’s new Superman, David Corenswet, tasked with launching a new universe, isn’t feeling the weight of public pressure over the iconic role.

American actor David caught the director’s eye after his breakthrough role as River Barkley in Netflix’s 2019 series The Politician.

Now, David is set to light up the silver screen in the iconic superhero role, directed by James Gunn, the co-head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran.

The pressure of laying the foundation for the new DC Universe is incredibly intense.

However, in a recent interview published in GQ magazine, David opened up about being under the spotlight for his new role as Superman.

“I don’t know whether there’s something wrong with me, but I don’t really feel the pressure, which is not to say that I feel like I know what’s going to happen,” he said with a shrug, as the magazine reported. “But the pressure that I feel is the pressure to show up for James and deliver for him.”

On the other hand, director Gunn was quoted in the same publication as saying that his movie is “not the riskiest endeavour in the world,” as people are making it out to be.

“Is there something riding on it? Yeah, but it’s not as big as people make it out to be,” Gunn said. “They hear these numbers that the movie’s only going to be successful if it makes $700 million or something, and it’s just complete and utter nonsense. It doesn’t need to be as big of a situation as people are saying.”

Superman arrives in theatres on July 11 from Warner Bros. and DC Studios.
