Whitney Purvis, known from the reality show 16 and Pregnant, was detained on Monday, July 7, in Floyd County, Georgia.
The 33-year-old star is facing multiple charges, including felony involuntary manslaughter, distribution of a controlled substance, and use of a communication device to commit a felony.
Judicial records confirm that the MTV alum gave a drug known as “Tranq”, a mix of Xylazine and Fentanyl, to a man named John M. Harris.
The man later died from a toxic overdose.
Following her arrest, Acting Special Agent in Charge Jae W. Chung of the DEA’s Atlanta Field Division confirmed the agency’s involvement in the investigation.
Chung said in a statement to PEOPLE, “Whitney Purvis was arrested in Floyd County, GA, by DEA Atlanta in coordination with local law enforcement on charges of involuntary manslaughter related to fentanyl poisoning. The investigation remains ongoing.”
Notably, Purvis was taken into custody just one month after the heartbreaking loss of her teenage son, Weston Jr.
Her son had been living with his father, Weston Gosa, at the time of his death.
In an emotional Facebook post, Purvis said she was devastated and didn’t know how to move forward.
The TV alum claimed that, despite her child battling multiple health issues, including diabetes, Addison’s disease, and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, he did not receive proper medical care.
Purvis’s ex-husband later publicly denied these claims.
Later that same month, the former reality star shared another heartfelt update, revealing she had also lost her grandmother.
“Losing both of you within six months of each other feels like torture,” she wrote.
