Children’s High Fantasy story of child wizard Harry Potter and his time at Hogwarts is not being adapted into a show after the global success of the film series.
The show is being developed by HBO, who recently announced the cast for the upcoming show.
While most casting was received well, there was one specific casting that garnered a lot of backlash.
Paapa Essiedu was announced to play the role of controversial character Professor Severus Snape which was previously played by the late Alan Rickman.
The actor received a lot of criticism and the show’s casting was being questioned as people expected Snape to be portrayed by a white man.
Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy in the original Harry Potter movies, was asked about the actor at the FanExpo event in Denver where he defended Paapa.
“Paapa Essiedu is one of the best actors I’ve ever seen in my life,”, Jason said.
He defended him saying “I’ve seen some people online who are being rude about him. What they’re being is racist.”.
Jason said the online critics will be “swallowing their tongues” when they see him on screen.
