Anne Hathaway candidly opened up about her role in the upcoming A24 music drama film, Mother Mary, directed by David Lowery.
The 42-year-old acclaimed American actress plays a pop diva in the movie who flees her tour during an existential crisis and seeks out the old friend who helped craft her public persona.
Talking about how she felt during filming, the Academy Award winner said, “It felt like shooting Apocalypse Now,” adding that a single scene in the movie took a week to shoot.
The details about the plot are being kept under wraps and no official date have been revealed for the release of the movie.
In an interview with Vogue, Anne expressed that when she first read the script, “It was so confusing,” she realized she couldn’t act the role but had to become the character herself.
The 42-year-old Interstellar star said that she had to accept being a beginner and take singing & dancing classes for the preparation of her character.
She said, “It was welcome but it was hard, the way transformational experiences can be hard.”
Michaela Coel, who is co-starring alongside Anne Hathaway, praised the latter for her acting prowess, saying, “It’s very brave work that she’s done.”
