The Last of Us, which is the second-most viewed HBO series, unleashed a surprise for fans in latest episodes.
The die-hard fans already know about the death of the lead Joel Miller, portrayed by Pedro Pascal.
In the episode that aired on May 11, showed that the Washington Liberation Front’s members discovered that the cordyceps virus has now developed the tendency to be airborne and is further evolving.
Pedro shocked viewers as he marked his return to the horror series. After Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, killed a member of Abby’s group in order to seek justice for Joel’s death.
The episode portrayed what seems to be a flashback which showed Ellie waking up in her bed where Joel is seen standing at the door.
He speaks out in his familiar tone: “Hey, kiddo.”
The creators of the drama revealed that they have worked on the story in a way that would make watchers feel like “Joel [is] there a lot.”
However, the fifth episode was heavily criticised for not maintaining the quality. The gamers were not satisfied as one user called the play “a minefield of mistakes.”
Despite being a fan favourite, the second season was called out for lacking “the visceral weight of how the game was written.”
Apart from the pessimistic remarks, the apocalyptic fiction’s new instalment was able to gain 5.3 million views, seeing an increase of 13% in comparison to the first season.
The contradiction in opinions of the viewers and the gamers seemingly exist because the game to movie adaptation requires some significant changes as the two cater different types of audience.
Season 3 of the show is not expected to begin filming until the next year, 2026. However, no specific date has been given for the official beginning of shoot.
