King Charles had a rare moment of visible frustration during the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and a royal lip reader caught every word.
While greeting veterans at Westminster Abbey, the monarch, 76, suddenly looked confused and impatient. According to expert lip reader Jeremy Freeman, Charles muttered: “Unbelievable, where are my introductions?”
The monarch, who was waiting for his aide to step in and guide him, added: “Where, where are you?”
The unexpected slip came as King Charles, decked in a lounge suit and military medals, arrived at the service with Queen Camilla, wearing a white crepe silk dress and matching coat.
Despite the awkward exchange, the monarch quickly regained composure, smiling warmly as he met veterans and took part in the commemorations with the rest of the Royal Family.
Joining the King and Queen were, Prince William, Princess Kate, Princess Anne, Sir Timothy Laurence, Prince Edward, Duchess Sophie, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The royals paid tribute to WWII heroes with a two-minute silence and a service at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.
Charles laid a wreath with the words: “We will never forget.”
Prince William's read: “For those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Second World War. We will remember them.”
