Tom Cruise's influence in Hollywood knows no bounds.
The 62-year-old actor is instrumental in the success of many Hollywood stars. The newest addition to that list is John Boyega who played Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Speaking at Emerald City Comic Con, the 32-year-old revealed that Cruise loved his 2011 film Attack the Block which helped catapult his career.
Boyega said that while Cruise was in the process of editing Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol with J.J. Abrams, he recommended the filmmaker to watch Attack the Block.
Cruise’s suggestion led Abrams to discover Boyega, which led the director to cast him in his 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
“Tom told J.J., ‘You’ve got to watch this kid in Attack the Block.’ J.J. watched it, and one thing led to another, and four or five years later, I was in the movie,” said the British actor.
It is entirely possible that if it were not for Cruise’s recommendation, Abrams would not have discovered Boyega.
Even Boyega himself went on to admit that, in some ways, he owes his career to Cruise.
At the panel, Boyega was also asked whether he would like to star in a Mission: Impossible movie, to which the actor candidly replied that he may not due to the required stunt work.
