Disney just released the first teaser trailer for Freakier Friday, the long-awaited sequel to the 2003 cult classic Freaky Friday, and it’s packed with nostalgia and chaos.
Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reprise their iconic roles as Anna and Tess Coleman, bringing the beloved mother-daughter duo back to the big screen. This time, Curtis also serves as an executive producer on the film.
Unlike the original, this time, the body-swapping chaos isn’t just between Anna and Tess. The trailer teases a wild four-way switch, set to Chappell Roan’s infectious hit “HOT TO GO!”, as the group scrambles to figure out how to reverse the madness.
Set years after the original film, Anna is now a mother trying to balance life in a blended family. The teaser brings back some of the movie’s most iconic moments.
Fans will be thrilled to see several returning cast members, including: Christina Vidal as Maddie, Haley Hudson as Peg, Mark Harmon as Ryan, Ryan Malgarini as Harry and Rosalind Chao as Pei-Pei.
Joining the franchise for the first time are, Manny Jacinto as Eric Davies, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan in a mystery role and Julia Butters.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lohan teased that Freakier Friday brings even more physical comedy than the original while still staying true to the film’s emotional core.
"There’s more physical comedy in this. Much more than the original. While, at its heart, the movie has a lot of love in it. Love and loss,” Lohan shared.
The highly anticipated sequel is set to hit theatres on August 8, 2024.
