Prince Harry’s final royal engagement before stepping down from his duties with Meghan Markle was an emotional one, as resurfaced reports reveal that the Duke of Sussex appeared to be "blinking through tears."
According to The Mirror, citing royal historian Robert Lacey’s book, Battle of Brothers, Harry’s face was noticeably “tense and unsmiling” throughout the event.
"Observers also noted that Harry's face was 'quite tense and unsmiling'—and that when William sat down close to him, he barely greeted his brother," Lacey wrote.
The expert also pointed out how Meghan flashed a confident smile, while Harry seemed to become gloomier as the ceremony went on.
"His accelerated blinking even suggested he might have been fighting back tears," an observer noted.
Years later, Prince Harry opened up about the emotional experience in his 2022 Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, revealing just how isolated he felt.
"I felt really distant from the rest of my family, which was interesting because so much of how they operate is about what it looks like, rather than what it feels like," he shared.
"And it looked cold. But it also felt cold."
Tensions between the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex have been escalating for years, but the situation worsened after Harry and Meghan released their Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, followed by Harry’s explosive memoir Spare.
The couple made shocking allegations against the royal family, including accusations of bullying and racism against unnamed senior royals.
