Adrien Brody pokes fun of his lengthy Oscars 2025 speech

Adrien Brody defied Oscar’s tradition with a bold, lengthy acceptance speech.

On Sunday, March 2, the actor, 51, took home the Best Actor Award for his performance in The Brutalist.

As the actor began his acceptance speech at the 97th Annual Academy Awards, he quipped about the long speech, saying, “You’re already counting me down,” as the exit song began.

“I'm wrapping up, please, please, please. I'm wrapping up. I will wrap up. Please. Turn the music off,” he said before referring to his first Oscar win, which he earned in 2003 for his role in The Pianist. “I've done this before. Thank you. It's not my first rodeo, but I will — I will be brief. I will not be egregious. I promise.”

While the Oscar winner continued, his girlfriend, Georgina chapman, reminded him to thank his mom.

He went on to share some words of wisdom to make the industry and film world more “inclusive.”

“And I believe if the past can teach us anything, it's a reminder to not let hate go unchecked,” Brody said.

As the exit music played again, he smiled, “Okay, I’ll get out of here!” before finally ending his speech with a heartfelt message: “I love you all, let’s fight for what’s right and rebuild together, Thank you.”

Notably, Brody was the only Oscar winner among other contenders, including Timothee Chalamet for A Complete Unknown, Colman Domingo for Sing Sing, Ralph Fiennes for Conclave and Sebastian Stan for The Apprentice.

Brody had previously swept the awards season taking home the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, British Academy Film Awards for his starring role in The Brutalist.

The historical drama, directed and co-written by Brady Corbet, tells the story of a Hungarian immigrant and architect, played by Brody, who escapes to the U.S after the Holocaust.
