President Donald Trump hasn’t held back from attacking late-night stars since he first went after Stephen Colbert, though Seth Meyers remains unfazed by his jabs.
Trump has previously criticised Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Colbert, and even aimed at CBS Mornings host Gayle King.
At the end of August, Trump added Meyers to his list of targets.
“There is a sick rumor going around that Fake News NBC extended the contract of one of the least talented Late Night television hosts out there, Seth Meyers,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He has no Ratings, Talent, or Intelligence, and the Personality of an insecure child. So, why would Fake News NBC extend this dope’s contract? I don’t know, but I’ll definitely be finding out!!!”
Meyers had actually renewed his deal more than a year ago — news the former President seemed to have only just discovered. The late-night host, who has been on hiatus for the past few weeks, finally broke his silence.
On the latest episode, guest Kumail Nanjiani congratulated Meyers for “finally getting on Trump’s radar.”
“For weeks, he was picking on Fallon and Kimmel and Colbert and I was like, ‘What’s a girl gotta do?’” Nanjiani joked. “Because you talk about him, too.”
Meyers responded, “It’s kind of nice.”
He went on to note that Trump crafted specific insults for the other hosts but lumped them all together when it came to him. “In a way, it’s almost like he’s saying, ‘You know, he’s got something for everybody,’” Meyers quipped.
