Ryan Reynolds was the mind behind the joke at the SNL 50th anniversary event teasing his wife, Blake Lively’s current lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, says an insider.
Sitting down for an interview on the Fifi, Fev and Nick podcast, veteran cue card staffer for SNL, Wally Feresten gave insight into the jab.
“He had a different line in rehearsal and he pitched that to replace it,” he revealed, “That was his idea.”
He also added that the team behind the show is extra careful about involving celebrities in jokes such as those, “We wouldn’t want to do anything too controversial unless they were in on it.”
However, a source close to the actor denied the claim to The Post, as did NBC and Page Six.
Reynolds sat in the audience alongside Lively when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler asked him, “Ryan Reynolds! How’s it going?” to which he responded, “Great! Why? What have you heard?”
Justin Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, later reacted to the joke on the Hot Mics with Billy Bush podcast. The lawyer claimed that he was not aware of any person whose wife had faced sexual harassment and then went on to make jokes about it.
Blake Lively is suing Justin Baldoni on charges of sexual harassment, starting a smear campaign against her, and causing distress to her and her family. She alleges that these incidents took place while they were working together on the film It Ends With Us.
