Captain America: Brave New World is set to be released in theatres on 14 February, with fans awaiting the debut of the antagonist, Red Hulk.

As Sam Wilson prepares to take on his most dangerous foe yet, here are ten facts that fans should know about the new Hulk before watching the film:

10 - He’s Been There From The Start

The character that transforms into the hulking villain is Thaddeus Ross, who made his debut in 2008 in The Incredible Hulk. Originally portrayed by beloved actor, William Hurt, he has been replaced by Harrison Ford due to his tragic passing in 2017.

He went on to appear in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, as well as Black Widow.

9 - His Daughter’s Connection To Bruce Banner

In The Incredible Hulk, Bruce used to be in a romantic relationship with Elizabeth 'Betty' Ross. The first time he transforms, he wounds Ross’ daughter so brutally that she ends up in the hospital.

8 - He’s The Reason For Abomination’s Absence From The Avengers

In his attempts to stop the Hulk, Ross ends up turning Emil Blonsky into a beast called the Abomination. Even though the World Security Council hoped to turn him into a hero, Phil Coulson is aware that he is far too dangerous. He sends Tony Stark to speak to Ross, knowing it would turn him from the prospect away as he despised the billionaire.

7 - He Has Suffered Two Heart Attacks

Ross reveals in Captain America: Civil War that he had almost lost his life to a heart attack, and in Black Widow it is noted by Natasha Romanoff that the government official is on his second triple bypass.

6 - He Used To Be The U.S. Secretary Of State

A fictional news channel was launched by Marvel called WHIH Newfront which was led by Christine Everhart from Iron Man. Aiming to add more details to the fictional world, it updated fans on the events taking place between films. One such episode covered Ross becoming the Secretary of State for the United States.

5 - He Was One Of The Major Supporters Of The Sokovia Accords

The Sokovia Accords presented in Captain America: Civil War demanded that the Avengers operated under supervision, opposition to which led to the arrest of several heroes like Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers, and more.

Ross is the person who first presents the Accords, and is one of the most powerful figures pushing them on the heroes.

4 - He Was Chasing After Black Widow

On his path to enforce the Accords, Ross is shown to be chasing after Natasha Romanoff through most of Black Widow. However, she manages to escape him time and time again, even utilizing him to defeat Dreykov.

3 - He Tried To Court-Martial James Rhodes

James Rhodes or War Machine teams up with the Avengers who had been opposing the Accords with the threat of Thanos looming in Avengers: Infinity War. Ross, however, orders him to arrest Captain America and his team, which he refuses.

Ross then threatens Rhodes, claiming that he will be court-martialed for defying his orders.

2 - He Faced Off Against Nick Fury

A tie-in comic, The Avengers Prelude: Fury's Big Week revealed that when Nick Fury was trying to put together the Avengers Initiative, Ross intercepted him with plans of his own and even hacked his files. The two go head to head in a heated exchange, trading threats and insults.

1 - Red Hulk Leads The Thunderbolts In The Comics

Although, Thaddeus Ross is known to be a problem for heroes, his counterpart tends to be more sympathetic. He even goes on to found a superhero team of his own known as the Thunderbolts.

However, it was not the same team that is set to appear in MCU’s flick of the same name, however, some overlapping could be possible.
