Taylor Swift expressed her dislikeness for private relationships before dating Joe Alwyn

Taylor Swift hinted at a significant factor that may have contributed to the eventual breakup with her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn.

In a recently resurfaced video clip from her old interview, Swift confessed that she despised "hiding" her relationships from the public.

Swift, in a resurfaced 2012 interview on The Chatty Man, expressed her perspective, stating, "In my opinion, it all hinges on who you're with. If they have a significant problem with it, then I suppose you hide or whatever, but I don't particularly enjoy that."

The You Belong With Me singer further expressed, "Because it makes me feel like I’m running from the law or something. I don’t want to feel like I’m a fugitive, like, 'Oh my God, we’re having a relationship! Better put on a mask and stuff!'"

The Lover singer and her former beau Alwyn upheld an extremely private relationship, seldom appearing together in public during their time as a couple.

During a 2012 interview, Swift expressed her preference for simply "living my life" rather than concerning herself with others' opinions. 

"I feel like if you can be in a relationship and have it seem normal, that would be good," she remarked.

The interview came four years before she began dating Alwyn in 2016. The pair broke up in early 2023.
