In the newest teaser for Netflix's live-action rendition of One Piece, Iaki Godoy and his crew embark on an epic journey.
The eight-episode programme, which is based on the well-known manga series created by Eiichiro Oda, follows Godoy's Monkey D. Luffy as he gathers a crew, locates a ship to sail, and embarks on a treasure hunt across the open seas in an effort to ascend to the position of King of the Pirates. Along the route, he and his crew will face perilous competitors as well as an unforgiving sea.
"This crew, our crew, can handle anything," Godoy’s character can be heard saying in the new action-packed footage released Friday.
Additionally, Netflix posted a letter from Oda on Twitter, in which he expresses his enthusiasm for the impending live-action series and his gratitude to the cast and crew for bringing his manga series to life on television.
"It’s already fun seeing the flurry of reactions after each release of information," he wrote in part. "And the very fact that adapting One Piece into live action was conceived seven years ago is wild! … The entire process of so many people putting their heads together was a festivity in and of itself."
Oda also warns supporters in the letter that there may be some deviations from the source material, noting, "After the launch, I’m sure I’ll hear about some people pointing out how this character is missing or that scene is omitted, or this bit is different from the manga. But I’m sure they’ll come from a place of love, so I intend to enjoy even those comments!"
The programme, which was developed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, also features Taz Skylar as Sanji, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro.
Oda's manga series debuted in 1997 and has since sold more than 460 million copies all over the world. In Japan, it has also been converted into a number of feature films, video games, and anime episodes.
On August 31, One Piece will release on Netflix.
