Good news is in order for die-hard zombie lovers.

Return of the Living Dead is being rebooted for a new instalment, which would mark the sixth film in the franchise, reported via Collider.

However, the filmmakers revealed that the upcoming film will not be a remake of the original film, which was first released in 1985 under the helm of the later Dan O’Bannon.

Instead, it will explore different storylines in the existing world which makes it unclear whether the original cast will return.

"Our reboot of Return of the Living Dead will expand the existing world created by the original 5 films, while staying true to the R-rated, sci-fi, horror, dark comedy roots adored by fans of the cult classic around the world for the last 35 years," read a statement by Living Dead Media.

"We are excited to resurrect this storied franchise for current fans and new generations of zombie fans."

The reboot will reportedly be directed by Muck director Steve Wolsh.

The original plot of the film follows "two bumbling employees at a medical supply warehouse who accidentally release a deadly gas into the air, the vapors cause the dead to rise again as zombies."

The 1985 film acquired an approval rating of 91% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes, and several Saturn Awards nominations.

Clu Gulager, James Karen, Thom Matthews, and Don Calfa among others starred in the film.
