Jennifer Lawrence turns heads at Cannes with anomalous article choice: See

Jennifer Lawrence commanded attention at the 76th Cannes Film Festival with an unprecedented article choice.

The Passengers actress showed up at the Grand Palais for the premiere of Anatomy of a Fall in a Dior Haute Couture gown and jewelry from Archi Dior.

However, besides her choice of the gown color matching the carpet and minimal makeup look, Lawrence completed the look with a pair of black flip-flops by The Row.

The stint comes in the wake of the festival’s infamous policy that demands women wear heels on its red carpet - a rule that sparked a public outcry in 2015 after many celebrities were turned away from attending the festival.

Natalie Portman also called out Cannes for its double standards for men and women during a press conference for her film, May December, at the festival.

She described the film as a study of “the different roles we play in different environments,” noting the discrepancy being vivid at the Cannes Film Festival as well.

“Even here, the different ways we, as women, are expected to behave at this festival even compared to men… how we’re supposed to look, how we’re supposed to carry ourselves,” she said.

“The expectations are different on you all the time. It affects how you behave, whether you are buying into or rejecting it. You’re defined by the social structures upon you.”
