Netflix has unveiled plans to expand the Stranger Things franchise with an animated series

Netflix has no plans to end its successful run with Stranger Things with just a final season.

In fact, the streaming giant has decided to expand the multi-million-dollar franchise by ordering an animated series that is established in the Stranger Things universe.

As of yet, details of the show are being kept concealed with the only information being that it was developed by Eric Robles and Flying Bark Productions.

Robles has previously worked on creating other animated shows like Random! Cartoons, Fanboy & Chum Chum and Glitch Techs.

Furthermore, Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers are the executive producers via Upside Down Pictures as well as Robles from Flying Bark along with 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen.

"We’ve always dreamed of an animated 'Stranger Things' in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling," the Duffer brothers said in a statement.

"We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…"

Currently the Netflix original is in the works of a fifth and final season.

Other projects from the globally successful Stranger Things franchise include plans for a live-action spinoff series and a stage show.

While details of the live-action spinoff have not emerged the Duffers clarified that it would not have its titular characters Eleven or Steve Harrington included.

As for the stage show, it was revealed that it was debut in London’s West End in a 1959 Hawkings background.
